Indiana Jones hunts Marvel’s greatest artifacts in new variant covers
Indiana Jones has recovered the Ark of the Covenant and gone searching for the Holy Grail, but his next hunt is taking him somewhere considerably more superpowered.
Marvel Comics has revealed five new Indiana Jones Marvel Artifacts variant covers, putting the legendary archaeologist on the trail of some of the most powerful and recognizable objects in the Marvel Universe.
The covers come from Carmen Carnero, Marco Checchetto, Sara Pichelli, Mahmud Asrar, and Iban Coello, with each artist pairing Indy with a different piece of Marvel history.
Among the treasures are the Infinity Gauntlet famously wielded by Thanos, Thor’s hammer Mjolnir, the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak responsible for transforming Cain Marko into Juggernaut, Knull’s All-Black the Necrosword, and Doctor Doom’s iconic iron mask.
The covers arrive as Marvel prepares for a larger Indiana Jones revival in comics.
Marvel is also bringing the character’s classic adventures back to shelves with two deluxe hardcover collections, Indiana Jones: The Further Adventures Book I and Indiana Jones: The Further Adventures Book II. The books collect Marvel’s comic adaptations of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, along with the complete The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones series.
Fans looking for another dose of classic Indy can also pick up a facsimile edition of The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones #1 by John Byrne and Terry Austin in November.
The Marvel Artifacts covers mark the first time Indy’s obsession with powerful relics has been filtered directly through the Marvel Universe. They’re also helping set the stage for his return to new comic book adventures in February with Indiana Jones and the Sword of Pandemonium from Jason Aaron and Aaron Kuder.
Set after the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark, the new series will send Indy on an entirely new adventure as Marvel begins its latest era with the character.
