Ahmedabad: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will launch various logistics projects and passenger amenities in Gujarat via video conferencing on Tuesday.
He will dedicate four Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals (GCTs) at Bhimasar (Kutch), Devaliya (Junagadh), Chandisar (Banaskantha) and Shivlakha (Kutch) to the nation and also lay the foundation stone for the GCT at Linch in Mehsana.
The Union minister will inaugurate Gopalpur railway station in Kutch district and the stoppage of the Bhuj-Shalimar Express at Anjar station, also in Kutch, an official release said on Monday.
These projects and passenger amenities will significantly boost and strengthen goods transportation, commercial activities, logistics facilities and passenger rail connectivity in Gujarat, the release stated.
“The new Gopalpur railway station aims to strengthen rail connectivity and passenger amenities in the region, while also improving access to rail transport for local commuters. It eliminates the need for engine reversal at Gandhidham for trains travelling to and from Ahmedabad and Bhuj, thereby saving operational time,” it added.
The four GCTs that he will dedicate to the nation will boost rail-based freight transportation while promoting modern cargo management and logistics facilities, it said.
“These GCT projects will expand modern freight transport and logistics facilities, offering industries and businesses more effective options for transporting goods via rail. Additionally, through private sector participation, additional infrastructure for rail transport will be developed, and rail-based logistics will receive a boost,” the release stated.
The stoppage of the Bhuj-Shalimar Express at Anjar station represents a significant and long-awaited railway facility for passengers in the area.
“This facility will enable passengers to undertake direct and convenient journeys to major cities and important destinations across the country via the Bhuj-Shalimar Express. It will eliminate the need for passengers to travel to other stations to board the train, thereby saving time and reducing additional travel costs,” it said.
